# Why can’t VilaNet connect?

Confirm the device reaches the internet without VilaNet, preserve the first
error, then try **Auto Select** once. Repeated reinstalls or setting changes can
erase the evidence needed to identify the failure.

1. Record the selected server, final connection status and exact error.
2. Disconnect VilaNet.
3. Load two familiar HTTPS websites to confirm the underlying connection works.
4. Return to VilaNet and open **Server Nodes**.
5. Choose **Auto Select**.
6. Select **Connect** once and wait for the result.
7. If it fails again, stop retrying and collect
   [diagnostics](/en/common-tasks/diagnostics/) before reinstalling or changing
   advanced settings.

## Success check

VilaNet reaches **Connected**, remains connected, and ordinary websites load.
Complete [Confirm VilaVPN is working](/en/start-here/confirm-vilavpn-is-working/)
before treating the issue as resolved.

## Match the result to the next step

- **Ordinary internet does not work while disconnected:** restore the device's
normal connection first; this is not yet a VilaNet connection test.
- **VilaNet stays on Connecting or returns an error:** preserve that state,
selected server and diagnostics, then [contact support](/en/troubleshooting/contact-support/).
- **VilaNet says Connected but traffic fails:** follow
  [Connected but no internet](/en/troubleshooting/connected-but-no-internet/).
- **Only one specific server fails:** return to **Auto Select** and include the
failed server in your support details.

> **Screenshot needed:** capture the current **Connecting**, first-error and
> **Connected** states on real devices with account, server and network details
> sanitized. A connected UI state alone is not proof that traffic works.
